(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The Kofi Anna Institute for Conflict Transformation at the University of Liberia (UL) has described as grossly displeasing the approaches toward sustaining peace in the country.

According of the Director of the Institute, Debey Sayndee, and the cosmetic approaches toward sustaining peace in Liberia will crash, if no concrete actions are taken.

Mr. Sayndee said: “Liberia has a unique history of standing the stress of repeated statistics that most countries revert to conflict after five years of signing of peace accords.”

“Though Liberia has doubled the record by reaching ten years of unbroken peace, there is a need for tangible efforts towards sustaining the peace,” the university professor noted.

He wants the theory of ‘talking youth services’ be replaced by genuine peace building programs for the youths who constitute the largest and most potential section of the population.

Mr. Debey spoke Friday, May 10, 2013 at the launch of the Instrument for Stability Project at a local hotel in Monrovia.

Launching the project, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister for Youth Development, Patrick Mbayo commended the Liberia Media Center (LMC) AND Save the Children for aligning the project with the National Youth Policy.

Mr. Mbayo also encouraged the two implementing partners to ensure that the project is carried out as planned.

The Instrument for Stability Project is aimed at building the capacity of non-state actors, including youth and university students to enable them engage in programs to promote peace building, conflict prevention and resolution.

Under the European Union (EU) funded project, the LMC will work along with selected universities and community colleges in six counties, while Save the Children will deal with youth groups.
