(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Liberia has been appointed Chair to establish a High Level Committee of Heads of State and Government on the post 2015 Development Agenda.

At the end of the AU’s 21st Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Union said: “The High Level Committee would sensitize and coordinate activities of African leaders and members.”

“The AU’s Ordinary Session would also build regional and anti-continental alliances on the African Common Position on its development agenda.”

Liberia’s Chief Executive, Johnson-Sirleaf, was appointed, in consultation with Regional Deans, to head the committee, comprising two heads of State and governments per region.

The High Level Committee was mandated to further consult and finalize the African Common Position and ensure that priorities identified are integrated into the new Global Agenda.

“We welcomed the progress made in peace-building and post-conflict recovery in Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire and other parts of the continent,” the African Union meanwhile said.
