NDI, WLC hold Legislative policy Seminar

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-A one-day policy seminar for legislators takes place Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at a local hotel in Monrovia.

The seminar is organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), in collaboration with the Women Legislative Caucus (WLC).

The Women Legislative Caucus is the committee on Gender Equity and Child Development at both houses.
According to a release, the seminar is aimed at assisting legislators in their study and consideration of policies and laws.

The former Chairperson of South Africa’s Commission for Gender Equity is expected to speak on comparative experiences elsewhere in Africa.

Several Media practitioners, including LBS Director General, Ambrose Nmah, and Press Union President, Peter Quaqua, are expected to moderate the discussions.

Panelists include Montserrado County Representative, Josephine Francis, the President of the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia, Cllr. Teplah Reeves, and former Bomi County Senator, Richard Devine.

They will discuss the potential of the proposed laws to achieve their stated intent.

The stated intend of the group is to achieve no less than 30% and no more than 70% of any particular gender among both political party candidates and elected legislators.
