(mylbsonline/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has told world leaders that democracy and a pluralistic society are cardinal principle for opportunity and responsibility.

The Liberian leader made the statement recently in Yokohama, Japan, when she delivered a paper titled, “Inclusive and Resilient Society”.

President Johnson-Sirleaf noted: “Decades ago, political and social turbulences in some African countries were caused by the lack of inclusion by political leaderships.”

The Liberian Leader added: “The starting point is the elimination of inequalities, based on false and abstract notions of gender, religion, ethnicity and physical appearance.”

“Exclusion and inequality will go hand-in-hand and unless leaders deal with the root causes, societies will be fragile and whatever the leaders build, it will not last, or resist turbulence.”

The President said: “During the 1970s and 1980s, poor Africans and people from other parts of the developing world welcomed unconstitutional changes of governments.

The peoples took part in civil wars that threatened the social fabric of their nations, because they felt they had no stake in the wealth of those nations.

The Liberian leader then urged African leaders to eliminate problems associated with inequality by providing certain basic services, including education, health and empowerment.
