(mylbsonline/Liberia)-More than 26 thousand 12th graders are writing the 2012/2013 Senior High School Certificate exams across the country.

The 12th graders started the exams Monday, June 3, 2013 at WAEC designated centers.

The Acting Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Monrovia Office, John Gayvolor, said: “The exams will be administered for five days, from Monday, June 3, to Friday, June 7, 2013.“

“Several new measures have been put in place by authorities of WAEC to avoid exam fraud and these measures are yielding good results,” Mr. Gayvolor added.

“The schedule for this year’s exams is different from previous years, because we started the exercise with the 9th graders.”

“This is due to the just-ended West Africa Senior High School Certificate Exams (WASHSCE), administered prior to the WAEC exams,” Mr. Gayvolor also noted.

The WAEC exams are administered annually to 12th graders to qualify them for higher education.

In recent years, scores of senior high students have however performed poorly in the WAEC exams.

But, another account of students’ performance in the most recent years has shown some level of progress, with several schools ranked in Division I.

Meanwhile, authorities of WAEC say there has been no report of any mal-practice so far since the commencement of the exams.
