Liberia signs UN Arms Trade Treaty

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The Liberian government has signed the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).
 

The treaty was signed Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in New York, United States of America.The Minister of State Without Portfolio, Commany Wisseh, signed for the Liberian government.

Minister Wisseh said: “The Treaty will increase human security and promote mutual respect for all.”

“The treaty is very important for the enhancement of global peace and President Johnson-Sirleaf was pleased to form part of that historic event, “Minister Wisseh noted.

The United Nations Trade Treaty is a global Plan, aimed at regulating the flow of arms around the world.

The UN ATT initiative comes following its overwhelming approval by the UN General Assembly in April 2013.Minister Wisseh is a founding member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA).

Liberia is now the 68th member of the UN Arms Trade Treaty.
