Prez. Johnson-Sirleaf attends G-8 Summit

(Mylbsonline/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is in Northern Ireland attending the 2013 “Group of Eight (G-8)” Summit.

President Johnson-Sirleaf is attending the G-8 Summit at the invitation of British Prime Minister, David Cameron.

An Executive Mansion release is quoted as saying: “Three other African leaders were also invited at the Summit taking place in Lough Erne, Northern Ireland.”

They include, the Chairman of the African Union (AU), Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, AU Commission President, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini, and Senegalese President, Macky Sall.”

The Liberian Leader will address the gathering on the topic: “Transparency and Trade” in line with the G-8 Summit’s 2013 Theme: “Taxes, Trade and Transparency,” the release said.

The Summit will also deliberate on some unresolved issues, as well as other important topics, such as food security, nutrition, sexual violence in armed conflict countries.

This international gathering of the Group of Eight will be the 39th meeting in a series which began in 1976.

While the Liberian Leader is away, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Edward McClain, will serve as Chair of the Cabinet in consultation with Vice President, Joseph Boakai.

Meanwhile, upon the President’s return to Liberia Thursday, June 20, 2013, she will participate in the official launch of two national programs.

The launch will jump –start the National Reconciliation Roadmap for Liberia and the National Dialogue Conference on Peace and Reconciliation.

The ceremony will take place at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion on Ashmun Street in Monrovia.
