Man, 28, faces 10-year imprisonment for rape

( 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Voinjama, Lofa County, North Central Liberia, has sentenced a 28-year old man to ten- year imprisonment for statutory rape.

Defendant Foday Beyan was indicted recently by the Grand Jury during the February Term of Court for Statutory Rape; a first degree felony under the new Rape Law of Liberia.

According to the indictment, Defendant Beyan was arrested in January, 2013 after having sex with a four-year old girl in Borkeza, Zorzor District,   Lofa County.

During Police preliminary investigation, Foday Beyan reportedly admitted to the commission of the crime because he was under the influence of alcohol.

In a related development, a twelve-man jury of the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Lofa County has also found a 24-year old man guilty for Statutory Rape.

Defendant Steve Vollah was arrested in March, 2013 in connection with the crime. According to the report, the incident occurred while the victim was on her way to their farm.

Meanehile, the final ruling into the case is expected Saturday, June 29, 2013.
