Liberia, Norway sign US$72.6m grant agreement

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-A US$72.6m grant agreement, in support of the rehabilitation of the Mount Coffee Hydro Electric Plant, has been signed in Monrovia.

The grand agreement was signed Thursday, July 4, 2013 between the Liberian Government and Norway.

Under the agreement, the money will be provided by the Norwegian Government.

The Counselor of the Norwegian Embassy accredited near Monrovia, Fred Rasmussen, described the signing of the agreement as a milestone in Liberia’s development.

Mr. Rasmussen said: “The grant is a gift to the government and people of Liberia. The restoration of electric power to Liberia is part of the Government’s agenda for transformation.”

Finance Minister, Amara Konneh, said: “The US$72.6m constitutes the large share in the mount coffee project. The rehabilitation of the plant remains a national priority.”

“The Mount Coffee Hydro Plant is a cardinal conduit to transforming the economy through investment and job creation,” he added.
