Chinese business delegation to invest US$12m in Liberia

( A high-level Chinese business delegation is in Liberia assessing the possible establishment of an initial US$12m investment in the country.

The delegation arrived in the country at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Margibi County over the weekend.

The Director of the Landcent Industrial Development Company, Arun Prabhu, told reporters upon arrival, that they were invited to Liberia by Margibi County Senior Senator, Clarice Jah, during her recent visit to China.

Mr. Prabhu said: “My Company is interested in oil palm production, and the cement and mining industries, among other areas of development concentration.”

“While in the country, we will meet with relevant government ministries and agencies for final arrangement to begin operation,” Director Prabhu told reporters.

Earlier, Senator Jah noted: “My efforts in having the investors come to Liberia is geared towards government’s determination to create jobs for Liberians.”

“At least one thousand Liberians are expected to be employed when the company starts operations later 2013,” she said.

“Another team of investors is expected to arrive in the country soon.”
