Labor Minister Juah extolled US Government

( Minister, Juah Lawson, has extolled the United States Government for supporting the fight against child labor in Liberia.

Minister Lawson said: “The launching of the Child Labor Project in Liberia is a new beginning of change in the Liberian children’s lives.”

“I am calling on WINROCK International and other partners to support the Secretariat for the successful execution of the Project,” She said.

Minister Lawson made the statement Wednesday, July 10, 2013 when she served as key launcher of  a six-million United States dollar project co-named, ”The Action to Reduce Child Labor in Liberia.”

Also speaking in Monrovia at the launching ceremony, United States Ambassador to Liberia, Deborah Malac, reaffirmed her government’s support to fight child labor in the country.

Ambassador Malac said: “Despite many developments in Liberia, much is still needed to be done in addressing child labor issue.”

Earlier, the Project Director, James Yekeh, said” “The program will last for more than three years.” It will for now cover Liberia’s rubber belts.

Mr. Yekeh also noted: “Serious concentration will be in Montserrado, Margibi and Nimba Counties.”

The plan of Action to Reduce Child Labor in Liberia was drafted WINROCK International and is being sponsored by the Department of Labor.
