Prez. Sirleaf dedicates road project, wants facility up keep

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has officially dedicated the Diahnblah-Gbezohn Highway, formerly the Buchanan Highway in fulfillment of government’s development agenda.

The new name of the road was a combination of the traditional Bassa names for the Farmington and Mechlin Rivers and Buchanan City respectively.

President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf said: “The program for connecting the capitals of the counties commenced with the Buchanan, Gbarnga to Mendikomah and Ganta to Mendikomah Road projects under a new World Bank-sponsored program.”

“The delays in completing the highway project was due to the relocation of access payments (raps); an obligation very necessary to settle the unanticipated financial claims of property owners leading to the completion of the road.” The Liberian Leader noted.”

She performed the dedicatory ceremony, Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Fair Ground in Gbezohn, Buchanan City.
The occasion was graced by members of the Grand Bassa County Legislative Caucus, the county authorities, cabinet ministers.

President Sirleaf urged the Superintendent of Grand Bassa County to ensure that the protective railings of the road are kept clean.

“The Public Works Ministry should erect the appropriate road signs with speed limits for the common good of all. “ She added.

The 80.8 kilometer rebuilt highway stretches from Cotton Tree, Margibi County to Grand Bassa County in Gbezohn, Buchanan City.
