Samaritan Purse turns over Foya Airstrip

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-Samaritan’s Purse International has officially turned over the newly-constructed Foya Airstrip in Lofa County to the Liberian government.

The 4,000 feet airstrip was constructed by Samaritan’s Purse International, an American NGO. The project commenced in August, 2013 and completed in April, 2013. It contains a helipad capable of supporting all forms of aircrafts.

Speaking at the turning over ceremony, Samaritan’s Purse Country Director, Kendell Kauffeldt, said: “We are grateful to the Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, the Liberia Domestic Airport Authority, officials of Lofa County for the level of support given us during the construction of the airstrip.”

“The airstrip is our organization’s way of buttressing government’s effort in the transformation of its transport sector. “ Director Kauffeldt said.

Making brief remarks on behalf of Government, Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, thanked the Management of Samaritan’s Purse for constructing the airstrip at this time of Liberia’s transformation process.

Vice President Boakai said: “The Foya Airstrip will afford commercial airlines the opportunity to begin regular flights to and from Foya to assist in alleviating the transportation burdens posed for travelers to Lofa County, neighboring Guinea and Sierra Leone respectively.”

He described the Foya Airstrip as the most beautiful next to the Roberts International Airport (RIA).

The ceremony was graced by the Vice President, the Management of Samaritan’s Purse, officials of Lofa County, among others.
