LBS gets US$1.3m boost from CCTV

( Chinese technical team is in Liberia to implement a US$1.3m project to boost the coverage of the Liberia National Television (LNTV).

The team is headed by the China Central Television (CCTV) Technical Department Engineer, zhang Peng hao.

The team arrived over the weekend and will be in the country for three months. Mr. Zhang described the project as a “good start” and a “bridge between our two peoples.”

He said: “All is now set for the implementation of the project. Our team and LBS staff must now begin working hard to achieve this national objective.”

The Chinese technical team head made the disclosure over the weekend in Monrovia at a meeting with the Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Darryl Ambrose Nmah.

While in the country, Mr. Zhang also noted: “We will install a 10kw television transmitter to cover mainly Monrovia and environs. This being wireless equipment, other residents far away from the city may receive the TV signal.”

“We will also install a 3kw transmitter for the CCTV services in the country,” he added.

According to Mr. Zhang, the consignment will arrive in Liberia August 23, 2013.

For his part, LBS Director General, Darryl Ambrose Nmah, hailed the cordial partnership between LBS, on one hand, and, CCTV and China Radio and Television (CRTV), on the other.

Mr. Nmah expressed satisfaction over the technical and mutual support the Government of the Peoples Republic of China is rendering LBS.

“Such level of support is intended to improve the human resource capacity and equipment of the Liberian National Broadcaster,” Director General Nmah added.
