(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-The National Elections Commission (NEC) has released the timetable leading to the conduct of the 2014 Special Senatorial Election in Liberia.

NEC said: “The preparation includes a 6-year strategic plan for the reform of the election laws, political parties, civic and voter’s education, and capacity building, among others.”

NEC Chairman, Jerome Korkoya, made the disclosure at a news conference Monday, August 12, 2013 in Monrovia.

Chairman Korkoya said: “200 teams are expected to be deployed at more than one thousand seven hundred voting precints across Liberia.”

The conduct of the Special Senatorial Election is expected to take place on the second Tuesday in October 2014.
The electoral exercise is in consonance with Article 46 of the 1986 constitution of the country.

The 2014 Special Senatorial Election marks the end of tenure of Senior Senators elected in 2005, providing room for the election of new set of senators for the Liberian Legislature.
