Govt and UNICEF inaugurate National Volunteers

( Youth and Sports Ministry, in collaboration with UNICEF, has inaugurated the 5th batch of 185 national volunteers.

The volunteers’ inauguration, under the National Youth Service Program, is in commemoration of 2013 International Youth Day.

A release issued in Monrovia recently quotes the ministry as saying: “The 185 volunteers will undergo 5-week training in peace-building and leadership skills in conflict mediation and community work.”

“Following the training, they will be deployed in 11 targeted counties as agents of peace,” the ministry also noted in the release.

“They will initiate peace-building activities in their assigned communities as teachers, health workers, public administrators and youth center managers.”

The release added: “The program will further provide an opportunity for the national volunteers, mostly college and technical students, and university graduates.”

“The opportunity will enable them gain valuable field experiences and skills, while contributing to nation building and, promoting peace and reconciliation efforts in Liberia,” the release also quoted the ministry as noting.
