( National Elections Commission (NEC) has said: “Political parties are cooperating in meeting the criteria spelt out in Liberia’s electoral laws.”

NEC Director of Public Information, Joewee Kennedy, said: “Phase one of ongoing inspection of political party headquarters has established that much is being done by various organizations to cope with the guidelines.”

Mr. Kennedy named some of the standards set up by NEC as the establishment of political party headquarters, and adequate accommodation for party members, among others.

He spoke to Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Commission’s headquarters in Sinkor, suburbs of Monrovia, the Liberian Capital.

Director Kennedy noted: “As required by law, every political party is obliged to meet these basic standards in line with the time-table released this week by NEC.”

“NEC will not hesitate to apply the appropriate penalty in the event where there is any violation,” he however added.

The National Elections Commission is currently conducting inspection of all political party headquarters and facilities, ahead of the 2014 Special Senatorial Election in Liberia.
