MR Rodney Sieh(L) signs paper turning over legal representation to his new attorney, Samuel Kofi Woods shortly before his detention.

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-Government says the detention of Journalist, Rodney Sieh, is not an attack on press freedom as being reported.

Information Minister, Lewis Brown, clarified: “The detention of Mr. Sieh was a result of his decision to go to jail, rather than respecting the court’s mandate.”

“The situation, as a matter of law, cannot be equated to attack on press freedom when the government, through the court, seeks to protect the interest of every citizen,” Minister Brown said.

The Information Minister also added: “Mr. Sieh had the right to make a choice to respect the court’s judgment in every form and manner as required under the Liberian civil law.”

Minister Brown then called on Liberians to develop a sense of respect for the rule of law as a way of seeking redress.
