(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-The House of Representatives has passed the National Youth Act, the first of its kind in Liberia.

It comes after eight years when a National Youth Policy was drafted, pending its approval by the Legislature.

According to the Chairman on the House Youth and Sports Committee, Lester Paye, the draft law seeks to empower young people through job creation, education, among others.

Representative Paye told ELBC Legislative Reporter Thursday, September 5, 2013: “The National Youth Act is in line with the African Union’s mandate to promote youth development.

However, majority lawmakers, opposed to the passage of the Act, finally agreed to the move, based on Speaker Alex Tyler’s intervention since it was long over-due.

The National Youth Act classifies youth as persons whose ages are between 15 to 35 years.
