Govt, ADB sign US$64m Ganta-Harper Highway loan agreement

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-The Government and the African Development Bank (ADB) have signed a US$64m loan agreement.

The Agreement, when ratified by the National Legislature, is intended to commence the pavement of about 50km of the 125km as first phase of the Fish Town-Harper Highway Road Project.

The disclosure was made Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Monrovia by Finance Minister, Amara Konneh.

Speaking at the signing ceremony at the Finance Ministry, Minister Konneh said: “The Agreement will bring development to Liberia’s South-Eastern Region and facilitate commerce to boost the economy.”

Minister Konneh also said: “The road project will also improve access to health centers and schools, and will create employment opportunities for close to five hundred Liberians.”

“Government is working along with her development partners, including the ADB, to mobilize resources to complete the entire road stretching from Harper to Ganta,” He noted.

The Finance Minister also added: “It is the first step in paving the Fish Town Harper Road, linking Liberia to Cote D’Ivoire and to Guinea.”

He represented Liberia on the ADB Governors Committee.
Minister Konneh pleaded with members of the National

Legislature for the timely ratification of the Agreement to enable government conclude all arrangements, including procurement, before the dry season starts.
