( Agriculture Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL) is calling on the House of Representatives not to alter the US&6.00 per day threshold set by the Senate in the Decent Work Bill.

FAWUL President, Austin Natee and Secretary General, Edwin Sisco, said: “We will resist any reduction in the US$6.00 threshold.”

The union made the statement recently during a meeting with members of the Senate Committee on Labor in Harbel, Margibi County.

The Senate Committee on Labor had gone to Firestone-Liberia to brief FAWUL about the status of the Decent Work Bill.

The Committee Chair, River Gee County Senator, Mathew Jay, told the Firestone Workers Union leadership: “Major progress has been made in the interest of the workers.”

Senator Jay said: “The issue of pension, retirement and other benefits are also key on the discussion.”

“The Legislature will exert every effort that will bring respect and dignity to the Liberian Labor force.”

The Senate Labor Committee delegation that visited FAWUL includes Senators Thomas Grupee, George Tengbe, and Mathew Jay.
