(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has submitted to the Legislature a draft Act to amend the Telecommunications (LTA) Act of 2007.

The Act is seeking changes in the tenure of the LTA Board of Commissioners by the President, when necessary.

The draft Act prohibits a commissioner from engaging in any telecommunication-related employment for a period of two years, immediately after the commissioner’s tenure.

However, the Liberian President has the right to wave said restriction in accordance with the proposed law.

The draft Act is also seeking to ensure that the LTA makes severance payments to commissioners who have served their tenures.

It also forbids commissioners from owning shares directly or indirectly in any entity engaged in the telecommunications sector in Liberia.
