(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-A top member of the House of Representatives Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee says the General Auditing Commission (GAC) lacks the required resources.

Representative Ben Fofana said: “The GAC’s mandate to conduct yearly audits of all government institutions is not fully supported.”

He made the statement in an interview with mylbsonline.com reporter upon the opening of the first series of public hearings on various audit reports.

Representative Fofana also noted: “Despite the national and foreign training opportunities afforded some GAC employees, the entity still lacks the needed capacity.”

The House Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee Co-Chairman confirmed that out of 80 audit reports, 35 are to allow public officials account for their actions.

The Committee is conducting hearings on the 80 audit reports that are currently before it.
