(mylbsonlins.com/Liberia)-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has received the 2012 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development Award.

The award is India’s most remarkable prize given the President at a well attended program at the Presidential Palace in the Indian capital, Delhi.

An Executive Mansion release quotes the Prime Minister and President of India, and the Chairperson of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust as saying:  “President Sirleaf’s leadership has led to Liberia regaining its rightful place in the comity of nations.”

“I accept the honor with deep gratitude and appreciation”, President Sirleaf said while receiving the award.

“I am dedicating the award to the Liberian people, especially the women, who lifted me and entrusted the leadership of the country into my hands,” she concluded.
