India to give Liberia US$144m for electricity

(mylbsonlin.com/Liberia)-The Indian Government has agreed to provide US$144m to Liberia.

The money is an extended line of credit to Liberia and will help fund power transmission and distribution in Liberia.

At the signing ceremony, Indian Prime Minister, Mahomet Singh, said: “President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a visionary leader, who has contributed to her country’s transformation and economic growth.”

Prime Minister Singh also said: “The Liberian President is working towards peace and stability not only in Liberia, but in the West African sub region.”

President Sirleaf Said at the talks: “I am pleased with the outcome of talks with the Indian Prime Minister. The discussion has resulted to bilateral ties between Monrovia and New Delhi.”

The grant comes as a result of President Sirleaf’s visit  to India when she held discussions with Indian leaders in  that Asian state on a number of issues of mutual benefits.
