(mylbsonline.com/Liberia)-A media executive has challenged Liberians, particularly the youth, to be determined and strive for sel-reliance in life.

The Director General of f the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), Darryl Ambrose Nmah, said:” If people start to believe in their own potentials and invest in themselves, they can have a brighter future no matter their financial status in life.”

“Liberia’s growth and development could be threatened if the human resource capacities of the country are not built.” Director General Nmah noted.

The LBS boss believes that once the capacities of youth are built in special areas, they will contribute meaningfully to society and desist from unlawful activities capable of diverting the country’s agenda of progress to backwardness.

Mr. Nmah spoke Friday, September 13, 2013 in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, at a career guidance program organized by the Liberian Youth Initiative for Peace and Sustainable Development, under the theme: “The Power of Self- Motivation and Determination.”

“The road to success is associated with challenges, and as such, one must be determined to be successful, no matter your financial status or your parents’ wealth, you have to identify your potential” He emphasized.

The LBS boss, producer of an inspirational radio program, “Pure Power Series “   on the state-run radio, observed that most youth pursue  things they want rather than things  they really need to become self- reliant in society.

According to him, most young people are abandoning schools to work at gold mines, while some are riding motorcycles in search of financial benefits.

“ Let me make it clear, some young people who  are riding motorcycles(pen-pens) are also investing in their future ; they are going to school , but most of the other folks are enjoying today’s proceeds from their motorcycles  and quitting  schools,” Director General Nmah noted.

He argued that without proper education, young people will definitely become liabilities to society when they no longer possess the energy to ride motorcycles or work on gold mines.

“You can choose the career you have passion for and not because you see your friends in such careers that will attract your attention.” Director General Nmah told the youth.
