Govt wins legal suit against Cocopa Management

By Jerry Kollie

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia/Sept.24/2013)-The Liberian Government has won its legal battle against the Management of the Cocopa Rubber Plantation Company in Nimba County.

According to Nimba County Representative, Larry Younquoi, government instituted legal proceedings against the Management of the company for receivership of the plantation, due to its unsatisfactory handling of the concession.

Representative Younquoi told mylbsonline Monday, September 23, 2013 that the guilty verdict was handed down over the week-end by the 8th Judicial Circuit Court in Sanniquellie.

The District-8 lawmaker said: “Now that final judgment has been rendered in favor of the government, the Executive Branch, in collaboration with the Legislature, will set up an interim management team to administer the affairs of the plantation until a new company takes over its operations.”

Representative Younquoi is meanwhile commending both branches of government, noting: “The management has failed the people of the affected communities over the years.”
