Reflect on worlds emerging challenges-Prez. Sirleaf urges UN Assembly

(mylbsonline.com/Liberia/Sept. 25, 2013)-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has called on the United Nations General Assembly to reflect on the world’s emerging challenges.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Johnson-Sirleaf wants the world body seize the new opportunities and to commit itself to a new global partnership to promote economic and social transformations for inclusive prosperity for all nations.

The Liberian Leader said: “The solutions of the UN General Assembly may not apply to today’s challenges and urged everyone to muster the courage by taking bold steps.”

The President made the call Tuesday, September 24, 2013 when she addressed the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

She expressed thanks and appreciation to UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, for her selection as one of three Co-Chairs of a 27-member High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons.

The 27-member High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons was asked to make recommendations for a new global development agenda post-2015.

President Johnson-Sirleaf is one of few African leaders privileged to address the UN General Assembly on the opening day of the general debate.

Other African leaders who  addressed  the forum  included Presidents Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, Armando Guebuza of Mozambique, Jacob Zuma of South Africa, and Joyce Banda of Malawi.
