China to rehabilitate the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium

( 10/ 2013)-The Government of the People’s Republic of China will shortly commence the rehabilitation of the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville.

The cost of the rehabilitation of the National Sports Complex is put at over US$16m.

According to the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhao Jianhua, the two year rehabilitation will begin late 2013 or early 2014 and upon completion, will transform the facility into a new stadium.

Ambassador Jianhua made the statement at the Foreign Ministry when the Liberian Government and its Chinese counterpart exchanged a letter of understanding for the renovation of the SKD Sports Complex.

“The SKD is important in cementing bilateral ties between Liberia and China.” He said.

“Sport is also cardinal in promoting peace and national reconciliation in Liberia, Ambassador Jianhua also noted.”

Responding on behalf of the Liberian Government, Foreign Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, paid homage to the Chinese Government and people for their continued support to Liberia.

Minister Ngafuan made particular reference to the construction of new roads, and the rehabilitation of old ones, including the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital in Tappita in Nimba County, and the University of Liberia Fendell Campus in Montserrado County, among others.
