(mylbsonline/Liberia/Oct.18/2013) President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has for the first time reacted to recent calls for her resignation.

President Johnson-Sirleaf said: “I will not resign, because I have the popular mandate of majority Liberians through the ballot box.”

“That is the opinion of the minority of the people. A greater portion of the Liberian people is still supportive of my leadership, as was demonstrated by the high turnout to receive me on my arrival from the United States.”

The Liberian Leader also said: “Part of my mandate is to ensure a free and democratic election and that the choice of the Liberian people is elected.”

The President made the comments Friday, October 18, 2013 when she appeared on a local radio station in Monrovia.

At the same time, President Johnson-Sirleaf has rubbished media reports that one of her sons, Roberts Sirleaf, is now a billionaire.

“It is a mere perception of the Liberian people who are accustomed to people working in high places to be transparent and accountable,” she noted.

The Liberian Leader added: “Roberts Sirleaf has been working in some of the most credible financial institutions in the United States where he earned himself some money, but he is neither a billionaire, nor a multi-millionaire.”
