(mylbsonline.com/Liberia/Oct. 19/2013) Liberia has joined other countries of the world to celebrate World Food Day 2013.

According to a release, this year’s celebration of World Food Day is being held under the theme, “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition.”

FAO announced the annual theme to highlight key agricultural issues and to help advocate for joint and collaborative solutions to agricultural problems, as part of efforts to end hunger.

World Food Day was established by FOA’s Member Countries at the organization’s Twentieth General Conference in November 1979.

October 16 is the anniversary of FAO’s founding in 1945.
Official Program marking the day is being organized by the Agriculture Ministry, in collaboration with FAO and the World Food Programe (WFP) near Fendell in Montserrado County.

Activities marking the day will include planting of ten “Trees of Peace” to commemorate improved agricultural growth in Liberia, and the World Food Day event itself will bring together partners and showcase achievements in the agriculture sector.
