(  A member of the Liberian Legislature has expressed satisfaction over the recent joint Liberian-La Cote D’Ivoire Chiefs and Elders’ Meeting in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Grand Gedeh County District Number Three Representative, Alex Grant, described the joint Chiefs and Elders’ meeting as a strong foundation for the promotion of internal and sub-regional peace.

He also described the meeting as a welcoming development in internal and sub-regional peace promotion.
A communiqué aimed at enhancing the sustenance of peace in border communities of both countries was signed at the meeting.

Representative Grant said: “The meeting will not only benefit Liberia and La Cote D’Ivoire in solidifying border security, but will promote border trade and cooperation between security forces of the two West African nations.”

“While we (Grand Gedians) are not happy over the delay in the trial of 18 of our kinsmen, currently in prison, we are peaceful and law -abiding people, “Representative Grand added.

He made the statement Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Monrovia in response to media reports that he and others supported a demonstration during the meeting.

Representative Grant then urged the court to speed-up the trial of the accused Liberians, predominantly Grand Gedians, during the November Term of Court to set free those who would not be found guilty of the crime.

He lauded the Liberian-La Cote D’Ivoire chiefs and elders for their selfless initiative of working together, along with the security forces of the two countries to ensure peace along the common borders.

Representative Grant also wants security personnel working along the borders to help promote cordial working relationship with the civilian population in the areas, as pointed out at the just-ended meeting of chiefs and elders from Liberia and La Cote D’ Voire.
