(mylbsonline.com/Liberia/Nov.1/2013) Bong County Senator, Jewel Howard-Taylor is calling for the establishment of modernized traditional school system across Liberia.

Senator Taylor said: “The traditional school system will provide skills training to people who will enroll at the institutions.”

“Instead of only impacting discipline and respect, dress code and home care-taking in the Sande and Poro Societies, the school will empower students through other skills to earn their livelihood,” the Senator also said.

She is, at the same time, cautioning Liberians against western culture which, according to her, is making them lose their rich traditional heritage.

Madam Taylor is also urging her compatriots to keep their good culture values and do away with harmful traditional practices.

The Bong County Lawmaker spoke Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at a Strategic Stakeholders’ National Forum on women’s rights in Monrovia.

The Strategic Stakeholders’ National Forum mainly focused on female genital mutilation.

The forum was organized by Women Solidarity, with support from Open Society Initiative of West Africa (OSIWA).
