( 2013) The Sirleaf Market Women’s Fund is appealing for more donor support to enhance the decentralization of its capacity-building initiatives across Liberia.

The Executive Director of the Fund, Margretta Smith-Generai, disclosed that the organization has earmarked projects in Sinoe, Rivercess, among other Counties, but decried the lack of adequate funding for implementation.

Madam Smith-Generai said: “Empowering rural market women through the provision of modern facilities and Adult Literacy programs is a major boost to the fight against poverty.

“The project needs the support of all local and international multi-national institutions,” she also said.

Madam Smith-Generai and two other executives of the Fund made the statement Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Monrovia when they spoke to the ELBC Super-Morning Show.

Madam Smith-Generai, Messrs Abraham Yapah and Joseph Mehdeh commended the US-based organization (Alpha-Kappa-Alpha Sorierity) for financially supporting the Omega Modern Market Project.

“The project, currently ongoing in the Omega community in Paynesville, will be transformed into a multi-purpose modern complex,” Madam Smith-Generai added.

“It would help ease constraints being faced by the marketers, mainly those in the Red Light area.”

She named some of the facilities that would comprise the new Omega Market complex as health-post, hostel for transiting marketers, parking lots for lorry trucks and smaller vehicles.

Others include school-buildings, standardized market-halls, modern toilets, pipe-borne water and 24-hour electricity.
