MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Jarp Davis Reports) – The Ministry of Youth and Sports has presented awards to winners of various sporting disciplines in the just ended National County Sports Meet.

At the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia Thursday, Grand Kru County was awarded the first place trophy while Nimba and Maryland counties got the second and third place awards in the football category.

In the kickball category, Margibi County got the first place trophy while Grand Bassa County took the second place award and Lofa County received the third place medal.

Speaking before presentation of the awards, Internal Affairs Minister, Varney Sirleaf, congratulated all of the counties for their participation in the county sports meet.

Meanwhile, President George Weah for the first time has spoken on the disruption of the final match between Grand Kru and Nimba counties at the just ended National County Sports Meet.

Speaking at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia Thursday, January 30, 2020 during the award ceremony, President Weah called for a depoliticized county meet in future encounters.

President Weah, however, said the actual meaning of the tournament was achieved by bringing Liberians together.

The Liberian Leader has also praised the spirit under which the tournament was held and lauded the talents of youthful players who participated in the tournament.

During the final of the National County Sports Meet Sunday, players of Nimba County walked out of the pitch in protest of a penalty awarded to Grand Kru County.
