Liberian Health Officials Warn Liberians to Suspend Traveling to and from China…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Jarp Davies -Reports) – Liberian health authorities have issued a travel advisory with a call on citizens wanting to travel to and from China to suspend their travels.

The Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (N-PHIL) in the advisory released Sunday, strongly discouraged citizens from travelling to and from China for the next one month.  

The travel advisory also urged citizens from traveling to China until the threat of the Corona virus is significantly reduce around the world.

Releasing the advisory, Health Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, called on all to abide by the health advice as a means of preventing the spread of the Corona virus to Liberia.

Dr. Jallah has, at the same time, clarified that no case of the virus has been reported in Liberia or Africa and reiterated call for citizens to trust health authorities and the health system.   

Meanwhile, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (N-PHIL) has announced the activation of its preparedness plan to prevent the spread of the Corona virus to Liberia.

According to N-PHIL Acting Director General, Dr. Mosoka Fallah, Liberia’s preparedness plan is based on the country’s experiences from the Ebola outbreak and guidelines from the WHO Africa Region Office.

Dr. Fallah said the preparedness plan include 24 hours screening at the Roberts International Airport as well as a 24 hour ambulance service at the airport.

He also spoke of collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service to track previous arrivals from transmission zones and activation of the national Emergency Operation Center.

Dr. Fallah told reporters Sunday that the measures are intended to reduce the likelihood of an imported case of the deadly Corona virus to Liberia.
