Monrovia Liberia – Information Minister Eugene Nagbe has clarified that there is no shortage or expected shortage of Liberia’s staple, Rice.

Minister Eugene Nagbe stated that there has been a total hands-on inventory done already to ascertain the quantity of rice in the country.

His clarification on ELBC Radio on Monday February 17, comes in the wake of rumors and speculations on social media about an impending shortage of the country’s staple.

Minister Nagbe warned Liberians against spreading falsehood about rice shortage to create chaos on the market.

He noted that enough quantity of rice is also being imported so there will be no issues with rice or any other essential commodity.

Last week, Minister Nagbe disclosed plans by government to create a strategic national reserve for major commodities that are essential to the livelihood of Liberians.

Such reserve the Minister believed, will allow the government to keep sufficient quantity of essential commodities such as rice and gasoline to make it available to the public when there is a shortage on the market.
