500 Liberian Farmers to Benefit from FAO’s Maize Production Project

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – More than 500 farmers in three counties are to shortly benefit from a maize production project funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The Maize Farming Project is an initiative of the Internal Affairs Ministry through its Communal Farming Program. Maize is commonly known as corn in Liberia.

An FAO release issued Wednesday, March 4, 2020 quotes its Country Representative, Mariatou Njie, as saying; six Districts in Bong, Bomi and Nimba counties will benefit from the pilot project.

Madam Njie praised the Internal Affairs Minister, Varney Sirleaf for being instrumental in reawakening communal farming in Liberia.

At the same time, Commerce Minister, Wilson Tarpeh commended the Ministry of Internal Affairs for revitalizing communal farming.
