MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Health authorities have confirmed the first case of the corona virus in Liberia.
They have also begun contact tracing of persons who may have come in contact with the only corona patient in the Country, the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Nathaniel Blama.
Addressing a major New Conference Monday, March 16, 2020 the Acting Executive Director of the National Public Health Institute Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Mosoka Fallah, said: “Several contact tracers have been dispatched at the home of the EPA Executive Director”.
In spite of the announced new case in the West African country, the Liberian President, George Weah, has announced ban on travels of all Liberians including Government officials to and from countries with huge cases of the coronavirus.
President Weah in a nation- address Monday, March 16, 2020 also announced ban for all non-essential travels by Government officials.
The Liberian Leader has also granted a pay-leave for all non-essential employees of government until further notice.
President Weah at the same time wants Liberians minimize their local travels as well as disengage from larger gatherings.
The Liberian President has also postponed his planned nation-wide tour because of the virus.
President Weah statement follows news that the corona Virus has been recorded in the country through the Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director, Nathaniel Blama who returned to Liberia Friday, March 13, 2020 following a visit to Switzerland.
