Criminal Court ‘C’ grants Gov. motion for continuance…

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court-C on Tuesday, May 26 granted the Liberian Government’s motion for continuance for three weeks in the case involving it and former Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Executive Governor, Milton Weeks.

Granting the motion Tuesday, Judge Yamie Gbeisay expressed serious concern over the continuous request for postponement by state lawyers in the case.

Judge Gbeisay said:” Prosecution’s dilatory approach towards the proceeding could give different impression of the court to erode public confidence in the Judiciary.”

He said:” While Chapter 18.1 of the Criminal Procedural Law gives Prosecution the right to prosecute and drop charges, Chapter 18.2 equally gives the Court the right to dismiss charges in keeping with law.”

Meanwhile, defendant Week’s legal team interposed no objection for continuance, and expressed its readiness to proceed with the matter after the twenty-one day postponement.
