Liberia confirms five new COVID-19 cases

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Five new Coronavirus cases have been reported, bringing the total number of cases in the Country to three-hundred-sixteen.

According to the Incident Management System’s Situation Report Wednesday, June 3, 2020, two additional recoveries have also been reported.

The report added that the total number of deaths is still at twenty-eight.

At the same time, one-hundred-nineteen confirmed cases are undergoing quarantine at the treatment center, while six-hundred-eighty-seven persons are being followed up.

In a related development, an assessment report on the preparedness and response plans of counties against COVID-19 is being developed by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL).

According to NPHIL, the assessment report covers counties’ coordination, surveillance, social mobilization, logistics and case management.

NPHIL Director General Dr. Mosoka Fallah made the disclosure Wednesday, June 3, 2020, in an ELBC interview.

Dr.Fallah said:” The report is based on findings from a one week assessment by the Incident Management System of six counties on COVID-19.”

According to him, health authorities have observed that the health teams of the counties are challenged due to the lack of logistics and training for health workers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mosoka Fallah has confirmed that there is no case of confirmed Lassa fever currently in the Country.
