MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Public Works Minister, Mobutu Nyenpan, wants adequate budgetary appropriation to finance roads development across Liberia.
Minister Nyenpan made the remarks Tuesday, June 16, 2020, when he appeared before the House of Representatives.
Mr. Nyenpan was answering questions regarding bad road network between Nimba County and Southeastern Liberia.
Minister Nyenpan said:” The current appropriation was inadequate to finance the Nimba to Southeastern Corridor.”
The Public Works Minister, however, said:” Government is securing donor support for the pavement of the Corridor, while rehabilitation works are carried out to allow movement of people and goods during the current Rainy Season.”
For now, the House of Representatives has required the Public Works Ministry to submit to its Committee on Public Works, road contracts awarded between 2018 to present, including the road fund.
In a related development, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is currently supporting a major road maintenance work in Gbarnga, Bong County.
It is to put concrete in drainages along major roads in some parts of the city, including the Administrative Drive, Gboveh Hill and Far-east Community Roads among others.
Speaking with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Gbarnga recently, the Project Supervisor, Rufus Woe, said:” The current road maintenance work is to support the chip seal put along major community roads.”
Meanwhile, some residents of Gbarnga told LINA that they will institute measures to stop moving activities along the road.
