MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberian Health officials have expressed serious concern over the daily infections of the Coronavirus in the past months.
Liberia has recorded twenty-five new confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to six-hundred-twenty-six.
Health Authorities have so far attributed the rise in the number of Coronavirus cases to the refusal of most people to abide by health protocols.
They said the rising infection rate is also due to the ongoing voluntary testing in various communities, but warned of worsening situation if people continue to violate public health regulations.
The death toll of the virus stands at thirty-four, following one new death with two-hundred-fifty-four recoveries.
According to the Incident Management System latest update, there are currently three-hundred-thirty-eight patients in the treatment center, while health workers are tracing one-thousand-two-hundred-twenty-eight contacts.
Meanwhile, ELBC investigation has revealed that widespread public health violations continue to take place in various communities in Monrovia and other parts, despite the rise in more Coronavirus cases in Montserrado County.
According to our reporter, most people have abandoned the wearing of nose masks and face shields in public places in gross violation of approved public health protocols in the ongoing COVID-19 fight.
The investigation also revealed that sporting activities are taking place in some communities in Monrovia and other parts, some entertainment centers have re-opened in defiance of Government’s ban.
According to our reporter, some commercial vehicles are also seen carrying four passengers at the back seats, while motorbikes are carrying two to three paeesengers.
According to the investigation, however, banking institutions, supermarkets and pharmacies are in full compliance with health protocols.
In a related development, the Liberian Government says it will ensure a mandatory wearing of nose masks by all Liberians and foreign residents to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Information Minister Eugene Nagbe disclosed over the weekend that Government has announced the production of one-million locally made masks for the public.
It followed the launch of a campaign: ‘Masks for All’, by the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
Meanwhile, NPHIL Director General Dr. Mosoka Fallah says the compulsory use of facemasks will be enforced by members of the Joint Security.
Dr.Fallah said the Ministry of Transport, Transport Unions and the Liberian National Police are part of the campaign to enforce the mandatory wearing of masks.
