10 forwarded to court for Sexual Gender Based Violence

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has forwarded to court at least ten cases of Sexual Gender Based Violence for trial.

The LNP said the cases were reported from communities in Monrovia and its surroundings for the past one week.

Police spokesman Moses Carter, made the disclosure Wednesday, July 8, 2020, in an ELBC interview.

Mr. Carter said:” Suspects of the reported rape cases are mostly in denial of the allegation, despite sufficient evidence to indict them.”

The Police spokesman also claimed the report shows rape cases are on the increase in the Country.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police is calling for increased awareness on SGBV issues in communities to curtail the situation.

Meanwhile, a six – month initiative to abolish violence against women and girls in Lofa County is ongoing in the County.

According to ELBC Upper Lofa County Correspondent, the initiative is targeting sixty communities in three Districts in the county, including Voinjama, Zorzor and Salayea.

Our Correspondent said:” The project is under the EU and UN Women Spotlight Initiative for Liberia, and is being implemented by the Lofa United Women Organization.
