Liberia’s COVID-19 Response: As Gov’t Begins Review, Prez. Weah Instructs for Response Budget, Health Protocols be reviewed

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has begun the review of its response mechanisms in its fight against Covid-19.

It followed a meeting convened by President George Weah, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

According to Information Minister, Eugene Nagbe, the meeting was attended by members of the Special Presidential Committee on Corona virus and international partners.

Minister Nagbe said participants did an assessment of the response budget and the enforcement strategy of the health protocols by the Joint Security.

He said President Weah was concerned about the financial, surveillance, treatment and psycho social aspects of the response.

Mr. Nagbe said Health Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, presented on behalf of the Incident Management System while representatives of the US-CDC, UN and WHO gave their expert advice.

He has disclosed that President Weah, at the end of the meeting, scheduled another meeting to be held within ten days.

Information Minister, Eugene Nagbe, at the same time, said President George Weah has instructed Health authorities to further review the response budget and health protocols.

He pointed out that President Weah wants the budget of the National Covid-19 Response revisited to reflect existing challenges.

The Liberian Leader also requested the Incident Management System (IMS) to work along with the Joint Security to review the enforcement strategy of the health regulations.

Minister Nagbe said as the number of Covid-19 cases increases daily, President Weah is concerned about public’s adherence to the wearing of face-masks, constant hand washing and social distancing.
