MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Inter-Ministerial Task force on Sexual and Gender Based Violence has presented several recommendations to the Liberian Government, to end rape and other SGBV issues in Liberia.
The Task force recommended a revision of the Children’s Rape and Inheritance Law for amendments, build a new prison center for rapists in the remote areas, and Government’s support to the Gender, Justice and Health Ministries.
The recommendations also calls for the re-enforcement of the legal wellbeing and healthcare support for survivors.
An information release issued Thursday, July 30, 2020, said the recommendations were made at the end of a Special Stakeholder meeting on the overview of the status of rape and other SGBV cases in the Country.
The Task force, chaired by the Ministers of Justice and Finance, submitted the preliminary findings to President George Weah for consideration.
Responding, President Weah stressed the need to organize a consultative dialogue to address the alarming cases, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Liberian Leader availed his unflinching support for capital punishments for persons violating minors.
