MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) Director General, Emma Glassco, said technical discussions are ongoing to adequately address the concerns of Liberian Seamen.

In a release issued Monday, August 3, 2020, Madam Glassco said:” Registration and subsequent licensing of the six Chinese vessels will be done, following the conclusion of technical discussions with Chinese authorities.”

Recently, some aggrieved members of the Seamen Union, staged a protest against NaFAA’s reported failure to license the six Chinese Vessels.

Madam Glassco also clarified that NaFAA has not refused to license the vessels from operating in Liberia’s waters as alleged by some aggrieved Seamen Union members.

She said:” The vessels have larger fishing capacities and did not come to Liberia to fishing, as the authorization flag State from China has expired.

It can be recalled that Liberian seaman protested last week, demanding that the six vessels be registered to provide job opportunities for them, among others.
