President Weah Consoles Lebanon Following Explosion in Beirut

Monrovia, Liberia – President George Manneh Weah has expressed profound sadness and deep sorrow following a chemical explosion in Beirut, Lebanon that killed over one hundred persons and injured five thousand more.

 

In his message to His Excellency Michel Aoun, President of the Republic of Lebanon, President Weah extended heartfelt condolences for the horrific tragedy on behalf of the Government and People of Liberia.

 

“The People of Lebanon have endured tragic circumstances and difficulties sometimes in their history; yet, they did not fatal in despair as each challenge was defeated by the resilience of the Lebanese People”, the Liberian Leader said in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

President Weah further expressed hope that President Aoun and the people of Lebanon will find strength to emerge stronger and more united during this difficult period of national mourning, and to begin the arduous task of rebuilding and healing.

 

He then extended his thoughts and prayers to the families of those who died and wish the many who are injured a full recovery.

 

Rescue workers in Lebanon have been digging through the rubble looking for survivors of a devastating explosion in Beirut on Tuesday that killed at least 137 people and injured about 5,000 others.
