Pres. Weah suspends Nat’l Public Health Institute Director Gen. Dr.Mosoka Fallah for lapses

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has suspended the Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Mosoka Fallah, for time indefinite.

According to an Executive Mansion release issued Monday, August 10, 2020, Dr. Fallah was suspended for ethical, professional and administrative lapses.

Meanwhile, President Weah has appointed NPHIL Deputy Director General, Dr Patrick Kpanyan, as Acting Director General during the course of Dr. Fallah’s suspension.

At the same time, President Weah has set up a Special Investigative Committee to investigative an alleged breach in the health and administrative protocols.

It followed a reported allegation of constant errors made by authorities of NPHIL during the issuance of COVID-19 test results.

President Weah set up the Committee on Monday, August 10, 2020, following a meeting with key health stakeholders and international partners supporting the Country’s COVID-19 response.

Members of the Committee include the President of the Liberia Medical and Dental Council as Chair, Minister of Justice, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mawine Diggs, the Country Representative of the United States Center for Disease Control and the Country Representative of the World Health Organization.

The Committee is charge with the responsibility to find out whether there have been systemic breaches in the reporting procedure of COVID-19 results and recommend actions to be taken in order to remedy the situation.

The Committee has been given seventy-two hours to submit its findings.
