MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A nationwide formation of Fisheries Based Organizations or Cooperatives (CBO) in fishing communities gets underway shortly in Liberia.
According to a release issued over the weekend, National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), in collaboration with the Cooperative Development Agency, is expected to begin the establishment of Phase-One of the Cooperatives in Montserrado, Bomi, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount and Grand Bassa Counties.
The release said the fishing communities stand to benefit from capacity building training on the management and effective control of the cooperatives.
Under the collaboration, fishing communities will receive huge supplies of internationally approved fishing nets and motorized engines expected to arrive in the Country soon.
The distribution, according to NaFAA release, is aimed at enhancing the capacity of fishermen and increasing their incomes, and to promote the use of internationally accepted fishing nets.
